Anniversaries, birthdays and PETE

Today, 18 years ago on a sunny and warm day Ingela and I were married! Yesterday was Ingela's birthday. Congratulations to us!

This morning at 05:20 AM we got rudely awakened by PETE....
No, not mister Townshend but the paramedics and rescue helicopter serving this area.
It was flying back and forth and circulating at approx 100 ft. above the area where we live for about 3 hours.
It literally rattled the tiles on our roof and every cup and plate in our cupboards.
Maybe some poor guy have got lost in the woods surrounding our place or maybe some criminal from the county jail is on the run...
Hope not.
By the way they manouvered back and forth I could tell that they were using their infrared (thermovision) camera to search for somebody lost/hiding.

The photo is nicked ftrom PETE:s homepage:

PETE is an acronym of some finnish words for rescue activities &c.

Update at 1:50 PM
As you can see from the comment Ingela made they were searching for a 82 year old man who had got lost last night. He was found close to his home at around nine o'clock AM today and brought to hospital.

Aww bless the old chap! I hope he's warm and safe in hospital now and glad he was rescued. It must be a bit scary being chased by PETE!

Congratulations to you both on both occasions. since it's the custom in Holland to congratulate a birthday boy or girl's family on their special day, then of course I congratulate you Hans on Ingela's birthday, and her on suriviving all those years of marriage with you ;-)...just joking! The congrats are for you both xx

PS The deleted comment was mine..sorry! Made too many meistakes.

Congratulations, Hans and Ingela!
And Happy Birthday, Ingela!

I would have wondered the same thing had a chopper been circling my roof!
It's quite interesting the similarities of our areas. Helicopters are the air transport of choice here and we often see them spotting for fires after lightning storms during fire season. We also know if there has been a fire discovered when the same craft is seen soon after with a large bucket of water from the lake swinging below its belly. Its just a short flight, a quick scoop from the lake and they're off!

It's good to hear that all ended well with the poor soul being rescued. I hope he is recovering well.

Now I'm off to research PETE...

vally and dale > thanks for your congratulations. please, check my blog to see all the nice things i got for my birthday and anniversary (yes, i am a materialist)!

Thanks Val and Dale, regarding the language on PETE's website I linked to the Swedish speaking pages :)

This part of Finland is actually bilingual with a slight swedish speaking majority.
Ingela is really as fluent in Finnish as in Swedish cause her father speaks Finnish but I manage Finnish only on a basic level. Actually I'm more fluent in English.

Ingela blogs in Swedish but she can read nearly every language spoken in western Europe :)

Korsholm / Mustasaari is the place were we live and the picture on the front page is from where I grew up:

don't belittle yourself. your finnish is everything but basic, your grammar might not be perfect, but your vocabulary is massive!

Happy Anniversay, Happy Birthday.

Hope your week has been a good one. Pete, interesting name for rescue.

take care, :)

Thank you very much Grace! Yes the week has been good so far and the weather is improving day by day :)
Yeah, from my point of view PETE is a really good name.
The only problem with PETE is that his base is only a few miles from here and we are located below the approach path from northeast and he can be very noisy...
Even noisier than the real Pete :)

Hi Hans, I was interested to read yours and Ingela's comments about your language skills. As I understand it, you speak Swedish in your part of Finland, and that Finnish is very much a secondary language for you. Well, I have to listen to your wife. I'll bet your Finnish isn't bad at all, and your English is excellent! As is Ingela's. Very impressive indeed! hoping you are well there xx
